Type any two signs into a search bar and you will get a percentage. Aries and Cancer: 43 percent. Leo and Sagittarius: 92 percent. These numbers are invented, and even the good ones rest on a single data point out of dozens. Real astrological compatibility work is more interesting than a score, because it does not tell you whether a relationship will work. It tells you what the relationship will feel like, where the friction will come from, and what each of you will need to do about it.
Elements: The Temperature of a Connection
Every sign belongs to one of four elements, and this is the single most useful thing to know about compatibility.

What Compatibility Cannot Tell You
Astrology can describe a dynamic with unsettling accuracy. It cannot tell you whether to stay.
A chart does not know whether someone is kind to you. It does not measure effort, honesty or timing, and those decide more relationships than any aspect. Two charts with heavy friction can build something durable if both people are willing to work; two charts with beautiful contacts can end in a year if one person is not available.
